The Amazon Rainforest
The Amazon Rainforest is a vast, untamed wilderness that covers 2.1 million square miles in South America. It abounds with astonishing
flora and fauna, so don’t miss the chance to add a jungle foray to your Peru trip. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys, brightly-coloured birds, shy pink river dolphins and lurking caiman. Sociable
capybara can be spotted almost everywhere, and lucky visitors may catch a glimpse of a sloth. There are two fantastic ways to experience the Amazon; visitors can board a river cruise to swim, hike
and birdwatch somewhere new every day, or instead opt to settle down in a jungle lodge and venture out onto nearby nature trails and tree top canopies.
We offer several itineraries that visit the Peruvian Amazon.

Trek to Machu Picchu without the crowds
Avoid the crush on the ‘classic Inca trail’ and take a lesser trodden path to Machu Picchu, such as the Salkantay or Lares trail.
Alternatively, wend your way to the remote Inca sites of Choquequirao, Vilcambamba, and Huchuy Qosqo, which all see fewer visitors than their famous relative. Get to know the Inca without having to
fight all the crowds.
We offer an extensive range of itineraries which include Machu Picchu.

Explore Peru's Other History
The Inca are famous across the world for the magnificent ruins they left behind, but they weren’t the only pre-Columbian civilisation
in Peru. Many peoples have called this incredible country home, from the Moche and the notorious Chimú to the mysterious Chachapoyas, also known as the ‘Warriors of the Clouds’. Near to the city of
Chiclayo lies Túcume, a stunning pyramid city built as the capital of the Sicán culture and later incorporated by the Chimú, and last of all the Inca. The great city of the Chimú, Chan Chan, was the
largest pre-Columbian city in South America and features the famous Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. It’s easy to reach from nearby Trujillo.
Visit the Sun and Moon temples from Trujillo on our 13-day Northern Routes of Peru & Beach
holiday.

Inti Raymi, Peru
Wind the clock back more than 500 years and watch Incan civilisation brought back to life. Inti Raymi, or the Festival of the Sun, was
the Inca celebration paying homage to the Sun God Inti. Today, the festival is played out amidst the ruins of the ancient Incan capital Cuzco and while the sacrifices have been removed from
proceedings, everything else is designed as it would have been in the original ceremony, with red and gold drapes, pallbearers hoisting the emperor and hundreds of chanting priests. Speak to a
Rainbow Peru Specialist about tailor-making our Express Peru tour to attend Inti Raymi in July 2019.
